Irish Insights

Irish search for 1st victory

Notre Dame is set to kick off against No. 15 Michigan State at 3:40 p.m. today in Notre Dame Stadium.

The Irish (0-2) are playing host to the No. 15 team in the nation for the second year in a row while trying to break a two-game losing streak.

Notre Dame toppled then-No. 15 Utah 28-3 last season after losses to Navy and Tulsa appeared to put the program in a tail spin. The Irish went on to win the rest of their games that season.

Notre Dame could sure use a repeat of that today after sloppy losses to South Florida and Michigan to start the season.

It’s pretty simple to say what the Irish need to do today against the Spartans (2-0). The have to hang onto the ball, cut back on penalties and execute in third-and-short situations.

If Notre Dame can clean up those three problem areas, the Irish will get their first win of the season.

Prediction: Notre Dame wins 21-17, because this game is always close.
