Irish add top-100 basketball recruit, reports say

The Notre Dame men’s basketball team landed its third recruit for the class of 2012, and the oral commitment pushed the Irish’s recruiting effort into the top 25.

Zach Auguste, a forward from New Hampton (N.H.) High school, orally committed to Notre Dame on Friday, according to numerous reports.

The 6-foot-10, 220-pounder is a four-star prospect and ranked No. 93 in the 2012 class by Rivals.com. Scout.com doesn’t have him in the top 100 and says he is a three-star prospect.

Auguste’s decision gives Notre Dame three commitments for next year’s class. The Irish already received commitments from Cameron Biedscheid of St. Louis’ Cardinal Ritter and Austin Burgett of Avon High School.

Biedscheid, who is also rated a four-star prospect and ranked No. 30 nationally by Rivals.com, along with Auguste gives Notre Dame two top 100 commitments for the first time since the Class of 2005. That group featured Ryan Ayers, Kyle McAlarney and Luke Zeller.

Auguste’s decision was reported by the South Bend Tribune, Irish Illustrated, Irish Sports Daily and BlueandGold.com.
