Marvin Phillips Jr. could drive head coach Joey Meyer nuts at times. It seemed as though whenever Meyer hollered at someone to get back on defense or get in the right defensive position, Phillips was often on the receiving end.
And yet there might not have been a harder worker on the team last year than Phillips, who recently signed a contract for the 2011-12 Mad Ants season.
The 6-foot-8 forward led the NBA D-League with nearly four offensive rebounds per game, and was fifth overall in rebounding with an average of 9.3. Offensively, he chipped in with 12.3 points per game.
Phillips played in all 50 Ants games last year, and started 22.
Whether or not he starts doesn't matter. He will give 6-11 center Chris Hunter needed help on the boards.
Hunter, who missed all but seven games last season with injuries, including a torn Achilles tendon, also recently signed with the Ants, as have guards Ron Howard and Walker Russell Jr.
