Sen. Dan Coats, R-Ind., is scheduled to visit the failing Sherman Minton Bridge over the Ohio River Wednesday.
Coats' office said he will meet this morning with local officials and engineers in New Albany. The 50-year-old bridge, which carries Interstate 64 over the river and connects New Albany and Louisville, Ky., has been closed since Sept. 9 after cracks were discovered in the structure.
Coats has spoken to U.S. Department of Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood and "received assurances that DOT would expedite the evaluation process of the bridge," according to a news release from Coats' office.
