Compost creates silly carrots

Summer and the corkscrew carrot

I've attached two pictures of carrots from my garden. In the first, our two kids, Baker and Summer, are holding the carrots. Baker's looked like a little garden tool but he wouldn't hold still to show you. Summer is holding a carrot that grew in a corkscrew. I planted the seeds in a compost pile that still had some bigger pieces in it so the carrot grew around some pieces of eggshell!

Please include your name, the name of the posing person or pet, type of produce, where you live, a phone number (and a brief description of what you do to make that tomato all plump and delicious, if you would like).

Photos will be posted on The Journal Gazette's gardening blog, We're Digging It, and might be featured in The Dirt column by Anne Gregory.
