The Friends of Fort Wayne Charity Pro-Am Golf Tournament raised $40,000 this year, split evenly between youth programs sponsored by the Fort Wayne police and fire departments.
The tournament was played Monday at the Fort Wayne Country Club. The winning team was Craig Isabel, Mallory Hepler, Walt Rooney and Bill Highlen. They shot an 10-under 61,
The tournament, founded by Tom Inskeep, has raised $661,000 in its 24 years.
Line gets delayed NHRA win
Jason Line collected his sixth win of the season and the second in NHRAs playoffs during a rain-delayed final round at the NHRA Nationals at Maple Grove Raceway. Spencer Massey (Top Fuel), Robert Hight (Funny Car) and Arana Jr. (Pro Stock Motorcycle) also collected victories at the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series Event.
Luers sophomore at mini-camp
Bishop Luers sophomore James Blackmon Jr. will be among the 27 members of the 2011-12 USA Basketball Mens Developmental National team at a mini-camp Oct. 15-16 at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo. On the heels of a gold medal at the 2011 FIBA Americas U16 Championship, the USA will utilize four practice sessions to prepare to defend its gold medal at the 2012 FIBA U17 World Championship, June 29 to July 8 in Lithuania.
Indiana-Wisconsin to be on ESPN2
Indianas October 15 football game at Wisconsin will take place at noon and be televised on ESPN2, the Big Ten announced.
Purdue gets recruit
Cameron Cermin, an offensive lineman from Texas A&M Consolidated, made an oral commitment to Purdue, Gold and Black Illustrated reported. Cermin, who is 6-foot-5, 295 pounds, chose Purdue over Southern Methodist University, according to the report.
Receiver Trey Franks has been reinstated after serving a two-game suspension for No. 3 Oklahoma, allowing him to return in time for the Red River Rivalry game against No. 11 Texas. Franks was suspended indefinitely two weeks ago for an unspecified violation of team rules. No. 17 Florida will be without quarterback John Brantley at top-ranked LSU. Gators coach Will Muschamp said Brantley has a lower leg injury that wont require surgery and will be sidelined at least a week. Florida State quarterback EJ Manuel said his injured left shoulder is feeling significantly better after two weeks of rest.
Komets to try out AHL forward
Right wing Jean-Michel Rizk has been released by Hershey of the American Hockey League and will be with the Komets when training camp opens Monday. There are still three AHL players who are expected to join the Komets: defenseman Frankie DeAngelis with Worcester, plus forward Tom Mele and defenseman Tristin Llewellyn with Springfield.

City officials have approved a plan to keep the financially troubled Blue Jackets in Columbus until 2039 by allowing their home, Nationwide Arena, to be purchased with the help of casino revenue. Alex Ovechkin is leaving Washington for a few days following a death in his family. Chicago has agreed to a one-year contract with goaltender Ray Emery.
