And Another Thing

A New York Yankees fan sits in the stands after the Detroit Tigers defeated the Yankees 3-2 during Game 5 on Thursday at Yankee Stadium.

Let the beating of gums begin

Show of hands this morning, Blobophiles. How many of you living west of the Hudson River took immense enjoyment in watching the Yankees flail and die last night in the House That Ruth Built?

Thaaat's what I thought.

Unfortunately, we don't drive the narrative in this country. The East Coast media moguls (and their various mouthpieces at ESPN and elsewhere) do. So there will likely be much talk now about how the country will ignore whatever the World Series brings us, especially if it's the Tigers and/or Rangers vs., say, Milwaukee.

Network execs will be cliff-diving from their corner offices, if that happens. Because, yes, the Yankees, because they're from New York and because they have a national, albeit frontrunning, fan base, are guaranteed ratings.

But you know what?

I won't miss 'em at all while I'm watching the Series this year. And I will be watching, precisely because the Yankees won't be there.

So, um, there.
