Irish in control

Notre Dame ended the closest thing that came to a punt-fest Saturday afternoon midway through the third quarter with a 6-yard touchdown run by Jonas Gray.

That was the only scored of the quarter as the Irish took a 49-6 lead over Air Force into the fourth.

Neither the Irish nor Falcons punted in the first half, but Air Force had to punt away its first two possession and Notre Dame punted on its first offensive drive of the second half.

But the Irish were efficient with its second drive of the half, going 64 yards on six plays in 1:54 to take a 49-16 leads with 6:49 left in the third quarter.

Air Force held the ball for the rest of the third, getting to Notre Dame's 11 before Irish defensive end Kapron Lewis-Moore closed the quarter with a sack of Tim Jefferson.

The Falcons start on the Irish 15 in the fourth.
