Statement issued Friday:
INDIANAPOLIS – Indiana Democratic Party Chair Dan Parker issued the following statement in response to the announcement that Lottery Director Kathryn Densborn will resign.
On Oct. 6, Indiana Democrats called on Densborn to resign following media reports confirmed that she wasted tens of thousands of taxpayer dollars on luxurious new office space for the state agency.
In 2009, the Lottery paid $2.8 million to settle a race discrimination lawsuit filed by eight African-American employees fired by Gov. Mitch Daniels’ first Lottery Director, Esther Schneider.
“Mitch Daniels has appointed two Lottery Directors. Both cost taxpayers a lot of money and wound up resigning under clouds of scandal. They’re part of a growing list of agency heads who’ve stepped down after making embarrassing, costly mistakes.
“At some point, you’d think Gov. Daniels would practice within his administration the same brand of accountability he preaches and writes about externally.”
