Irish get ready for Trojans

Notre Dame returns from its bye week with a rivalry game with a twist.

The Irish (4-2) play host to USC (4-1) in the first night game at Notre Dame Stadium since 1990. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Saturday.

"It's just going to be a great college football game. It's what you all expect when Notre Dame plays USC," Coach Brian Kelly said during his Tuesday news conference.

Notre Dame went into its break on a four-game winning streak. The Irish closed the first half of their season with a 59-33 blowout of Air Force.

USC also had some extra time to prepare for this weekend's game. The Trojans defeated California 30-9 Thursday.

"We are at home. We are excited about being on national television. Clearly, our players are looking forward to that one game at night," Kelly said.

"The guys know. USC-Notre Dame is not a game you really need to hype with your players."

Kelly said linebacker Manti Te'o (ankle), defensive end Ethan Johnson (ankle) and receiver Daniel Smith (leg) have been cleared to play this weekend.

But Johnson could be limited.

"He's not at a point where he can play every snap yet," Kelly said.
