Goes way over the line with racist comment
Say this for P.C. Drouin: When he was on, and in the mood, he was as deadly a sniper as ever skated Memorial Coliseum ice for the Fort Wayne Komets.
His numbers -- 143 goals and 446 points in 426 games as a Komet -- back that up. So do his nine points in eight playoff games last spring.
Here's the relevant number, though, for Drouin: 37.
For a team whose management has said more than once it needed to get younger and also faster, that was just too high a number. And so Drouin, 37, became the Komets' final cut today as the team set its roster for the regular season.
It was something of a surprise, considering Drouin has repeatedly said he was in the best shape he's been in since his long-ago Boston Bruins days. But it wasn't that much a surprise given Drouin's dwindling numbers -- he scored just 14 goals last season -- and, of course, the one number that mattered most.
