Fort Wayne judge receives Civility Award

Statement issued Tuesday:

INDIANAPOLIS (Oct. 25, 2011) – Hon. David J. Avery’s respect and professionalism in the courtroom was recognized at the Indiana State Bar Association’s annual meeting on Thursday, Oct. 20, where he received the 2011 Civility Award.

Judge Avery, of Fort Wayne, is judge of the Allen Superior Court - Civil Division. Prior to his appointment to the Court, Judge Avery practiced law in Fort Wayne for 23 years with extensive experience as a mediator. He has been very active with the State Bar and currently serves on its Alternative Dispute Resolution Section and Pro Bono Committee. Judge Avery is also a member of the Allen County Bar Association, Allen County and Indiana bar foundations, Volunteer Lawyer Program of Northeastern Indiana and the Indiana Pro Bono Commission. He earned his undergraduate degree from Illinois State University in 1973 and his J.D. from Valparaiso University School of Law in 1976.
