Feeding the post

Indiana Coach Tom Crean discussed the offensive strategy now that big man Cody Zeller is on the roster during Big Ten media day Thursday.

“Cody makes it easier for everybody else. We knew this when we recruited him," Crean said.

"You can go at him and give him the ball and something can happen, or you can play through him. That’s what our team has to learn to do right now. He’s got the intelligence, the athleticism, the willingness to do that. He’s a quick learner....

“He truly makes the game easier because he passes the ball, rebounds the ball, understands what the other guys need to do. They’re learning how to play.

"If there’s one thing that’s been glaring for us, I take it as a slight to myself as a coach, our guys are not feeding the post nearly as well as we should be right now.

"You start to look at it as a coach, ‘What have I been missing?’ Well, we really haven’t been throwing it in there the last couple of years. We’ve spent time on feeding the post, but we haven’t been emphatic about throwing it in the post every time or every other time. We’re all learning together.”
