    WEST LAFAYETTE – Whitney Bays scored 20 points and Courtney Moses added 12 as Purdue routed Akron 84-55 in the first round of the NCAA tournament on Saturday.

Purdue women picked second

Purdue is predicted to finish second the Big Ten in both the coaches and media in the women's basketball preseason polls.

Penn State was selected to finish first in both polls. Iowa was third in the coaches’ poll and Michigan State was third in the media poll.

Karisma Penn (Illinois), Jaime Printy (Iowa), Lykendra Johnson (Michigan State), Samantha Prahalis (Ohio State and Alex Bentley (Penn State) were named to the preseason All-Big Ten team by the coaches and media.

Prahalis and Bentley shared the preseason player of the year honor for the coaches. Bentley earned the nod from the media.
