Notre Dame gets needed win

Notre Dame answered criticism from the outside and within by dominating Navy in a 56-14 home win Saturday.

The Irish responded to an embarrassing loss to USC last weekend that had the Trojans questioning their heart, and the players put harsh words from their coach behind them in the victory.

Notre Dame (5-3) handed Navy (2-6) a sixth straight loss the day after coach Brian Kelly reportedly apologized to the team after saying their was a big difference between the players he recruited and those he inherited when he took over the program two seasons ago.

"You can see the players that I recruited here," Kelly said Thursday. "You know who they are. We've had one class of recruiting kids that I've had my hand on. The other guys here are coming along. But it's a process, it can't happen overnight."

The process may still be ongoing, but the Irish have started the healing process.
