Turnout to be normal: low

This year’s mayoral race is expected to be decided by slightly more than a third of city voters.

The Allen County Election Board on Wednesday released its turnout projection for the upcoming municipal races.

Officials are preparing to handle a 40 percent turnout, but in reality expect between 36 percent and 38 percent of the county’s registered voters to cast a ballot. This is fairly typical participation for municipal general elections. While it might seem low, only 12.8 percent of registered voters participated in the spring primary.

People who can’t make it to the polls on Election Day still have time to cast a ballot early. The election board office at 1 W. Superior St. is open for voting from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Wednesday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday and 8 a.m. to noon on Monday.

More than 4,400 voters have already voted this season.
