SOUTH BEND – Notre Dame forward/center Natalia Achonwa will miss four weeks after hurting a ligament in the medial collateral ligament of her left knee, an injury that will require surgery.
The 6-foot-3 Achonwa, a key reserve last season when the Irish reached the national finals, averaged 6.9 points and 5.3 rebounds last year. She had been projected as a starter this season for the second-ranked Irish.
Achonwa is scheduled for surgery Tuesday after being hurt over the weekend.
The Irish will also be without freshman guard Madison Cable for six weeks because she has a stress fracture in her left foot.
Notre Dame opens the regular season Nov. 11 against Akron.
