Verbatim: Sergeant resigns pending theft allegations

Statement issued Tuesday by the Allen County Sheriff’s Department:

Investigation Details:

Third shift Sergeant, Louis Lee, of the Allen County Sheriff’s Department resigned on Friday November 4, 2011 amidst theft allegations.

An investigation conducted by the Internal Affairs Division of the Allen County Sheriff’s Department revealed that Sergeant Lee, a 32 year veteran, allegedly opened the door of an unsecured vehicle at a local business in Leo last week taking tools from the vehicle.

After a police report was filed a surveillance video from the business was turned over to the Internal Affairs Division for review. It is suspected that the individual in the surveillance video was Sergeant Lee.

Sergeant Lee was on duty at the time. The case has been forwarded to the Allen County Prosecutor for possible charges. This case remains under investigation.

A press conference has been scheduled for tomorrow, 11/9/2011 in the Sheriff’s Office at 9:00 AM. 715 South Calhoun St. Courthouse Room 101.

Further details surrounding this investigation will be released at that time.
