Dems knock Pence's Election Day trip

The Indiana Democratic Party has picked up on a Politico story saying U.S. Rep. Mike Pence is meeting with Donald Trump in NYC today instead of stumping for candidates on Indiana's municipal Election Day.

"I guess when you've spent your career in Washington, D.C., you don't worry much about helping local candidates back home," said Dan Parker, chairman of the state Democratic Party.

The Politico story says Pence will return to Indiana tonight for election night watch parties.

Matt Lloyd, spokesman for Pence's gubernatorial campaign, defended the congressman.

"Mike has been extremely committed to local candidates this election cycle. He raised more than $400,000 headlining events for municipal candidates across Indiana to help aid 2011 campaign efforts.

"While traveling to 55 counties across Indiana, Mike headlined 18 fundraising and campaign rallies for municipal candidates, raised money for three local party committees to help fund turnout efforts and keynoted more than 35 Lincoln and Reagan Day dinners and local party events.

"After spending the last several weeks campaigning in Indiana for local candidates he is looking forward to celebrating with them tonight as the election results come in."
