Indiana wins opener

Cody Zeller scored 16 points in his regular-season debut as Indiana topped Stony Brook 96-66 Friday at Assembly Hall.

Victor Oladipo had 16 points and six rebounds. Will Sheehey finished with 13 points and five rebounds as he battled flu-like symptoms.

Stony Brook was within 22-21 in the first half. Seawolves forward Danny Carter was then called for a flagrant foul and ejected for an apparent low-blow punch to Zeller. IU made three of the four free throws that followed as it started an 18-4 run.

Zeller provided a highlight early in the second half. He stole the ball near the Hoosiers' three-point line and then raced to the other end of the court and finished with a break-away dunk.

Indiana (1-0) returns to action Sunday against Chattanooga.
