Irish without starting point guard

Notre Dame (2-0) will play tonight's basketball game against Sam Houston State (1-0) without its starting point guard.

Eric Atkins is not playing because of an illness, which he was able to battle through Monday night in a 59-53 win over Detroit.

The sophomore is the Irish's leading scorer, averaging 20 points in the first two games, and is leading Notre Dame in assists, with 5 per game.

Notre Dame will be without two starters tonight as forward Tim Abromaitis serves the third game of his four-game suspension.

There is no official announcement on who will replace Atkins in the starting lineup, but sophomore Alex Dragicevich is expected to make the start. Dragicevich is averaging 4.5 points and 3 assists.
