Komets win in Evansville

The Komets beat Evansville IceMen 5-2 Thursday in Evansville.

It was the fourth meeting between the teams already this season.

The Komets (5-4-0) evened their record against the IceMen at 2-2-0. Evansville (6-1-1) suffered its first regulation loss.

Getting goals for the Komets were Jean-Michel Rizk, Frankie DeAngelis, Artem Podshendyalov, Chris Auger and Jamie Milam.

Assists went to Podshendyalov, Rizk, Kaleigh Schrock (2), Brett Smith (2), Tom Mele (2) and Bobby Chaumont (2). Smith now has at least one point in eight straight games.

The Komets scored three goals in the second period.

Evansville entered the game as the CHL’s best defensive team, allowing 1.7 goals per game. Instead, Fort Wayne’s offense remained red-hot and has scored 22 goals in its last four games.
