Shooter's Comments: I squirrel away photo ideas for later use. There are some days when there aren't enough photos that go with stories or there isn't a planned event to cover. On those days the photographers at The Journal Gazette have to come up with their own ideas. We might just drive around, but without a game plan this could lead to no picture and a lot of wasted gas.
I have been wanting to take a photo of ballerinas in class at the Auer Center for Arts and Culture since it opened. I envisioned a shot from the outside looking in through the windows at night. Last night when a story with a photo got postponed, I found myself with half an hour to find a 1A photo for the next day. I went to get this shot but then discovered I still didn't have the right angle even with a long lens shot from across the street. The shot I needed had to be shot from inside the Arts United Center, which was closed.
I then went inside the Auer Center for Arts and Culture to shoot a class. A tip from Kitti Skekloff's mom led me to Kitti watching a Jazz 1 class before her Ballet-2B class. Kitti Skekloff likes to go 15 to 20 minutes early to watch the other class every Thursday.
