Bad call leads to 1-0 Gems lead

Despite dominating this game so far, the Komets trail the Dayton Gems 1-0 late in the first period at Memorial Coliseum.

The Komets tallied the first nine shots, and 14 of the first 18, but kept getting foiled by goaltender Bryan Hogan.

A horrible call by referee Zachary Blazic changed everything. Blazic gave Mele a tripping penalty for a legitimate hip check at the blue line. Seconds later, the Gems' Tim Hartung scored on a power play.

And we wonder why there aren't good hits nowadays.
