Notre Dame took a 10-0 lead into halftime over Boston College thanks to one of its seniors getting Senior Day started off on the right note.
Senior running back Jonas Gray scored on a 26-yard run on the game's first drive.
Gray, who started over junior Cierre Wood, accounted for 51 of the Irish's 80 yards on the first drive. The TD gave him 12 for the season and marked the eighth straight game in which he has scored.
The Irish settled for a field goal on their next possession after getting to the Eagles' 20 thanks to a remarkable one-handed grab by tight end and former Bishop Dwenger standout Tyler Eifert.
Notre Dame struggled in its first trip in the red zone as Robby Toma couldn't hold on to a lateral pass then Tommy Rees almost had a pass picked off when he tried to hit Eifert. Wood then had a ball bounce off his hands, and David Ruffer was called in to hit a 40-yard field goal that gave the Irish a 10-0 lead with 8:15 left in the first quarter.
The game turned into a battle of punts from there with Boston College pinning Notre Dame inside its 5-yard line twice, and the Irish putting the Eagles at their 40 with a nice 47-yard punt by Ben Turk.
Gray ran for 44 yards and Wood for 23 yards in the first quarter, and Rees is 6 for 10 for 60 yards.
Boston College has only 43 offensive yards to Notre Dame's 133.
