Purdue falls to Iowa

Iowa used a balanced offensive attack to deny Purdue in its attempt to become bowl eligible.

Quarterback James Vandenberg passed for 273 yards and three touchdowns for the Hawkeyes in a 31-21 victory Saturday at Ross-Ade Stadium.

Marcus Coker rushed for 139 yards for Iowa.

Marvin McNutt had nine catches for 151 yards. His 51-yard touchdown reception on the first play of the fourth quarter to give the Hawkeyes a 31-14 lead.

Ralph Bolden scored to make it 31-21. Officials ruled that Robert Marve fumbled while trying to score with less than two minutes to go. The ball hit the pylon and Iowa was awarded the ball on a touchback.

The Boilermakers (5-6, 3-4 Big Ten) were looking to become bowl eligible for the first time since 2007. They'll have one more chance, next Saturday at Indiana.
