Thanksgiving dinner

St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 1101 Lafayette St., will host its annual Thanksgiving Day Soup Kitchen dinner from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday. Carryouts will be available at 1 p.m. Mass will be celebrated at 9 a.m.

•The Fort Wayne Knights of Columbus will host a free Thanksgiving dinner for seniors from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday at Knights of Columbus Hall, 601 Reed Road. A freewill donation will be accepted. Call 493-1914 for reservations.

Giving and receiving

Maple Creek Middle School’s Run for Riley on Oct. 16 raised nearly $23,000 for Riley Hospital for Children.

Habitat for Humanity of Kosciusko County will celebrate the completion of its 20th home on Sunday at 3 p.m. at 559 E. Market St., Warsaw.

Community Harvest Food Bank of Northeast Indiana collected 308 turkeys, nearly 1,200 pounds of holiday food items and about $13,000 during its Turkey Rally 2011.

•The Carroll High School Interact Club collected canned goods for Community Harvest Food Bank during an alternative trick-or-treating on Halloween night.

Home Instead Senior Care is sponsoring “Be a Santa to a Senior” program, which collects, wraps and delivers gifts to lonely and needy seniors in Allen County. •The Indiana Department of Natural Resources launched the GiveIN Game Program, which puts deer hunters in touch with residents who would like to receive venison for their table. Donors and recipients can register their contact information at www.dnr.in.gov/giveINgame, which will help connect residents to hunters who want to donate meat. NeighborLink Fort Wayne will host its annual “Light the Sky” event at 7 p.m. Wednesday on the Courthouse Lawn in downtown Fort Wayne. Lanterns are on sale and will be for sale until 6:30 p.m. the day of the launch. Proceeds from the lanterns go to NeighborLink projects. For information, go to NeighborLinkFortWayne.org.

Awards

Noble County Master Gardeners received the 2011 International Master Gardener Search for Excellence Award for the Chain O’Lakes Department of Corrections Horticulture and Landscaping Design Classes project, which taught gardening classes to minimum security offenders.
