Area athletes participate at NCAA cross country championship

Indiana's Andy Bayer, a Leo graduate, earned All-American honors by placing 39th at the NCAA cross country championship Monday at Terre Haute.

Bayer helped the Hoosiers' men's team finish seventh at the event with 257 points. It's the second consecutive year the Hoosiers placed seventh at the event. Indiana's back-to-back top-10 finishes are the program's first since the 1978 and 1979 seasons.

Bayer finished in 30 minutes, 11.5 seconds.

In the women's race, Carroll graduate Samantha Ginther participated for IU. She placed 173rd overall with a time of 21:35.4.
