Luers wins 3rd straight title

INDIANAPOLIS – Bishop Luers beat Evansville Mater Dei 41-17 at Lucas Oil Stadium on Friday for the Knights’ third straight Class 2A state title.

The Knights (13-1) have won 10 state championships, tied with Indianapolis Chatard with the most in state history. Chatard plays today in the 3A title game.

The championship was coach Matt Lindsay’s ninth title, which also ties a state record.

Evansville Mater Dei (13-2) also lost to Luers in the 2001 state championship game and lost to the Knights in the 2000 state title game.
