The Komets have submitted their "season-ending roster" to the ECHL – the list was made public by the league Monday – and from it we can discern players that the Komets are likely parting ways with this offseason.Monday 1 comment

The Komets are the hottest team in the CHL. Their 5-2 victory at Dayton, Ohio, was their sixth in seven games and brought them to 9-5-0 overall.

And they're being led by the hottest player in the league, center Brett Smith, who had a goal and an assist and extended his point-scoring streak to 13 games.

In that span, Smith has 22 points.

Fort Wayne, which pulled within a point of Evansville for first place in the Turner Conference, also got goals from Bobby Chaumont, Jean-Michel Rizk and two from center Leo Thomas.

The Komets scored on 3-of-10 shots against Bryan Hogan in the first period. He was then pulled in favor of Larry Sterling, who stopped six shots before suffering an injury on Smith's second-period goal and coming out of the game. Hogan finished with 14 saves on 17 shots for the Gems (6-5-4).

Fort Wayne's Nick Boucher stopped 24 of 26 shots.

Boucher allowed goals to Matthew Larke and Brandon Naurato, who has seven goals and 11 points in 12 games against the Komets since they released him last season. But Fort Wayne has gone 10-1-1 in those games.
