MARIETTA, Ohio — Hunters taking part in Ohio deer-gun season that opens Monday will no longer have to take their kills to a check station for a physical inspection.
Deer hunters will be able to use a new automated system for checking game. It was introduced earlier this year by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources.
The Marietta Times reports that Lindsay Rist of the department's Division of Wildlife says the new system offers three options for reporting deer harvests. Hunters can report by phone, through the Internet or to a traditional licensing agent.
Hunters have a full week to harvest whitetail deer after the deer-gun season opens statewide Monday. The season also will include an extra weekend of gun hunting on December 17-18.
