TinCaps win award

The rest of the nation will know what Fort Wayne has known for some time now.

Baseball America announced that the TinCaps franchise has been awarded the 2011 Bob Freitas Organization of the Year Award for the Class A level of minor league baseball.

The award is named in honor of longtime minor league ambassador Bob Freitas, and is presented to franchises for long term excellence and community involvement.

"To receive the Bob Freitas award is a tremendous honor for the franchise," TinCaps president Mike Nutter said in a news release. "This is one of the most prestigious national awards in all of minor league baseball, as it recognizes long term excellence in business and community involvement. This is as much an award for the great fans of Fort Wayne as it is for our front office.

The TinCaps will be presented with the award at the baseball winter meetings in Dallas, Texas.
