Passing on pay

Apparently mayoral pay wasn’t only a hot issue in Fort Wayne.

South Bend Mayor-elect Pete Buttigieg will reject a 2 percent pay increase approved by his City Council, according to the South Bend Tribune.

The council’s vote on Monday added about $2,000 to the mayor’s salary, putting it at $98,462. The decision to return it follows that of current Mayor Stephen Luecke, his salary at $94,633 since 2008, even though the council raised it to $96,526 in 2009, according to the Tribune.

The paper even mentions Fort Wayne Mayor Tom Henry’s salary of $123,600, which drew significant heat from Republican challenger Paula Hughes during the campaign for being higher than the mayor of Indianapolis or Gov. Mitch Daniels.

The Fort Wayne City Council has not yet approved elected official salaries for 2012.
