Thousands of homes and businesses in northeast Indiana were without electricity Wednesday – a day after wet snow and strong winds brought down power lines across the region.
Kosciusko REMC reported that about 2,500 of its members had no power at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday. The rural electric co-op, which serves much of Kosciusko County and parts of surrounding counties, estimated that power would be restored to most members by late today.
At 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, NIPSCO had electric outages affecting hundreds of customers in Kosciusko, Steuben and Noble counties. Warsaw had more than 1,000 outages; and Pierceton had more than 220, according to the utilitys website.
Spokeswoman Angie Nelson said some of NIPSCOs outages may last until midday today.
Indiana Michigan Power had no customers in Allen County without electricity at 8:30 p.m. Wednesday. The utilitys only outages in the region were in Whitley County, where 168 customers were in the dark.
Spokeswoman YaVonda Ulfig said the utility reached a peak of 4,000 outages in the region at 10 p.m. Tuesday. Power had been restored to most customers by Wednesday afternoon, she said.
