TinCaps president Mike Nutter is at the Baseball Winter Meetings in Dallas. Monday, he had the chance to address an audience of close to 1,000 as the team was awarded Baseball America's 2011 Bob Freitas "Organization of the Year" for the Class-A level.
"We share this with all the fans, sponsor, the Midwest League, the Padres and our great media back in Fort Wayne, Indiana," Nutter recounted telling the audience during a phone interview Monday night.
Baseball America announced the award on Nov. 29. The winners were recognized at an event Monday.
The TinCaps' opening day included a 3D event, a promotion that was recognized nationally. Fort Wayne hosted a Triple-A series in July (featuring Tucson and Las Vegas). The TinCaps season ended with another trip to the playoffs.
"It's not just about us, it's about longevity. It's pretty cool," Nutter said.
"… For us to be recognized, there's 30 low-A and 30 high-A, for Fort Wayne to get the award is a great honor."
