ERIE, Pa. – The Mad Ants used a strong fourth quarter effort to defeat the Erie BayHawks 94-87 Saturday night at Tullio Arena.
Fort Wayne’s Gage Daye scored eleven of his 12 points in the final frame as the visitors outscored the home team 36-26 down the stretch, including a 23-9 run, and help the Mad Ants improve to 3-3.
Erie (2-5) jumped out to an early lead to end the first quarter up 21-15, before Fort Wayne tied the game with a minute to go before the half. The Mad Ants led 40-39 lead at halftime.
Erie’s Chaz McCrommon scored 10 of his 15 points in the third quarter to help Erie manage a three-point margin heading to the final frame. But the visitors had the hot hand in the fourth connecting on 67 percent of their shots including four three pointers.
Fort Wayne was led by Corey Allmond with 21 points, Marvin Phillips notched 20 and Sadiel Rojas grabbed 13 rebounds while adding 8 points.
The BayHawks’ Kyle Spain lead all scorers with 24 points and Tirrell Baines added 22 points.
The Mad Ants head home for a Friday night match-up with the defending NBA D-League champion Iowa Energy.
