The Komets were foiled in their attempt to take over first place in the Turner Conference with a 5-3 road loss to the Wichita Thunder on Tuesday..

The Komets had won eight of their last nine games, entering Tuesday, and goalie Nick Boucher had won seven in a row.

The Komets (13-6-0) had a two-goal lead at the first intermission, thanks to goals by defenseman Frankie DeAngelis and forward Chris Auger.

But the Thunder (14-7-0) fought back with all three goals of the second period. Alex Bourett, Aaron Davis and Matt Robinson scored for a 3-2 lead.

Fort Wayne forward Tom Mele tied it 7:59 into the third period, but Thomas Beauregard answered with the game-winning goal 1:02 later.

Bourett added an empty-net goal.

Boucher stopped 23 of 27 shots. He was selected as the CHL's Goaltender of the Week on Tuesday, after going 2-0-0 with a 1.00 goals-against average, .971 save percentage and a shutout in two games. Wichita's Adam Russo stopped 24 of 27 shots.

The Komets played one man short of a full lineup because center Leo Thomas didn't make the trip for undisclosed reasons. The Komets were also without Jean-Michel Rizk (knee), Dustin Molle (groin) and Tristin Llewellyn (shoulder).
