Here we go again class basketball.
First of all, let me state I have never been a fan of class basketball. But I fear after 13 years of existence, it is here to stay.
But the naysayers keep trying.
A bill has been introduced into the Indiana General Assembly that would effectively eliminate class basketball in Indiana. It is thought to be at least the second time the state legislature has tried to go back to a single-class format.
Senate Bill No. 84 was written by Senator Jean Leising and would allow school corporations to "participate in an interscholastic athletics association only if the association does not conduct boys or girls interscholastic basketball games in which the teams are divided into classes." The change from the system that has been in place since 1997 would go into effect in the summer of 2012.
It would be nice if it happens, but I have gotten used to class basketball, but it is hard to imagine it will ever occur.
But you never know.
