Well, now, isn't this a juicy morsel of interesting.
Jim Irsay (who appeared in an earlier post on the Blob today giving a wholly fanciful pregame speech to get the troops fired up, or at least ember-ed up) says Peyton Manning, if he plays anywhere in 2012, will play for the Colts.
Lots of questions about that.
If Manning's definitely coming back (provided he's healthy), how does this square with the Colts' long-standing tradition of knowing when to deal valuable pieces just at the instant their value begins to seriously depreciate?
Where's this leave the Colts vis-a-vis drafting Andrew Luck? Will they still bring in an heir apparent even though it's almost guaranteed to create friction with the current occupant of the position?
If they don't draft Luck, what happens to this franchise if and when a fragile Manning goes down for good? Does this mean they now see Matt Barkley, a year away from the NFL, as the future?
And all of that said .... is this the club's way of saying it doesn't really expect Manning ever to be fully operational again?
