Purdue appeared to come up with a big defensive play when Gerald Gooden intercepted a pass inside the Boilermakers' 10. He was stripped of the ball during the return and Western Michigan recovered. The Broncos eventually scored on a 1-yard run by Tevin Drake to get within 34-25.
