Purdue scored 20 points in the second quarter and leads Western Michigan 27-15 at halftime of the Little Caesars Pizza Bowl on Tuesday at Ford Field in Detroit.
The second quarter featured a 49-yard field goal, an onside kick (Purdue's second of the game) and a kickoff return for a touchdown.
Purdue grabbed its first lead, 10-8, on a 49-yard field goal by Carson Wiggs with 10:34 left in the half.
Western Michigan answered with a 1-yard touchdown pass from Alex Carder to Josh Schaffer to regain the lead, 15-10 with 7 minutes to go.
Raheem Mostert returned the ensuing kickoff 99 yards for a touchdown. Purdue then recovered its second onside kick of the game. That led to a 1-yard touchdown run from Reggie Pegram to stretch the lead to 24-15 with 4:57 left in the half.
Wiggs made a 19-yard field goal to close the half.
