Spartans hand Hoosiers first loss

Keith Appling scored 25 points to lead No. 16 Michigan State to a 80-65 victory Wednesday against No. 13 Indiana at the Breslin Center in East Lansing, Mich.

Derrick Nix added 14 points as the Spartans handed Indiana (12-1) its first loss. Michigan State (12-2) has won 12 straight.

The Hoosiers used a 25-2 run to take the lead early in the second half. IU eventually built a 54-45 lead on a three-pointer by Christian Watford with 11:02 to go.

The Spartans scored the next 20 points.

Watford led Indiana with 26 points.
