After all the talk about the depth and competitive balance of the SAC basketball tournament, the first two days at Wayne haven't produced any surprises.
The top four seeds each advanced to the Friday semifinals, on both the girls and boys sides.
On the girls side, No. 1 Bishop Luers will play No. 4 Concordia at 9 a.m., followed by No. 2 Snider vs. No. 3 South Side at 10:45 a.m.
The girls championship is at 6:15 p.m. Friday.
On the boys side, No. 1 Northrop faces No. 4 Concordia at 12:30 p.m. and then No. 2 Bishop Luers plays No. 3 North Side at 2:15 p.m.
The boys championship is at 8:15 p.m.
Last year, No. 9 Wayne beat No. 1 Concordia in the opening round of the boys tournament. This year, the Cadets (the fourth seed) survived a sloppy game against No. 5 Snider to win 51-48.
"That was devastating to some of the guys last year," Concordia boys coach Josh Eggold said. "We had a bit of a hangover until into the new year until they righted the ship. This is such an important tournament to the kids. For us, we didn't play all the well in terms of execution and shots falling, but we lived to fight another day."
