Komets win, Komets win

Well, that was a struggle.

But Stephon Thorne's shorthanded goal 4:50 into the second period stood up, Nick Boucher stood tall again in the Komet nets and the first-place Komets held off last-place Bloomington 2-1 Saturday night before a sellout New Year's Eve crowd of 10,480.

Thorne and Bobby Chaumont scored the goals and Boucher was lights-out between the pipes, and the Komets had to kill off a too-many-men-on-the-ice penalty with 1:41 to play to secure the "W," their fifth straight and seventh in the last eight games.

Boucher's save off a point-blank shot from the slot with 32.8 seconds left was the big play in that sequence.
