God behind vastly formed universe

Jarvis

The amazing things of our world cause pause for wonder and reflection. I finally visited Cape Canaveral a few years ago and was overwhelmed as I stood by one of the early shuttles that went into space.

The shuttle and space facility in Florida is beyond human comprehension. To actually be there and experience the size of the space shuttle makes one wonder how mankind could embark on such an adventure with success.

Then, when a person thinks about space, not only what we have explored, but about all we do not know about space. To consider what we know from science, such as that there are more galaxies than ours, is beyond our comprehension. The Hubble Space Telescope has found there may be 125 billion galaxies in space. The abundance of possible galaxies is mind-boggling.

The ability in October 2010 to rescue Chilean miners trapped below the earth reveals the depth of our abilities to accomplish unbelievable things. Mankind has continued to learn more about the depths of the earth through routine drilling for energy sources. Add to this the limited understanding of what exists in the depths of the sea and one can fully understand how much we do not understand.

The deepest point in the ocean is generally believed to be in the Marianas Trench in the western Pacific Ocean at 36,201 feet, according to the Rand McNally Atlas (1977). This is deeper than we ever imagined, and the possibilities of exploration are endless.

All the accomplishments in medicine reveal how much we do not know about our bodies and the wonder of life. Dr. Phillip Bishop, professor of exercise physiology at the University of Alabama, said: “So we’re complex, so what? So, we’re so complex that our bodies reflect a system containing an abundance of information. We’re so complex it seems highly doubtful that we are the product of chance errors of our forebear’s DNA.” There are continuous discoveries about the body and advances in medicine that promote wellness and the extension of life.

We are limited in our knowledge just as the goldfish is limited by its environment. The goldfish only knows the tank it is in, but there is so much more that he doesn’t know about the world outside the tank. The goldfish cannot see beyond the glass that confines its boundaries. Mankind is like the goldfish in that we only have limited ability to understand the things we see and speculate on things we do not see; there could be and probably is so much more.

Hebrews 11:3: “By faith we understand that the universe was formed at God’s command, so that what is seen was not made out of what was visible.”

Mankind has always strived to understand how the universe happened and debated the existence of God; it is difficult to believe that there is not an answer to this question. There is, just as there is an answer to the world the goldfish cannot see. The difference is mankind has the intelligence and spiritual capabilities to experience God.

God gave us the limited ability to partially understand the immense vastness of the world we live in. The word of God affirms all this evidence. Not one major revelation in the Bible has ever been disproved. There are always skeptics, but there is more evidence for knowing God does exist than thinking he doesn’t.

The faith that mankind can experience is the only thing that makes sense in the world. We do know that the teachings of Jesus bring about the best life here on earth. There is undisputed truth for the best in life in the word of God. It is the sin of mankind within the individual that prohibits a joyful life and the best in life. The best in life is not in material possessions or power over others.

Looking at the breadth of the earth, that is, the unending heavens, unending depths of the oceans and the unending amount of knowledge we do not know or understand, the intricate biological structure of existence is evidence of the existence of a creator. It is this creator who has guided mankind since the beginning of our existence. The creator has always existed and will always exist.

Revelation 21:6: “He said to me: ‘It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end.’ ” If the question is: “Does God exist?” It may be better to question: “How could God not exist?”
