Warsaw man injuried in fall from tree

A Warsaw man fell and badly injured himself Saturday while trying to remove a hunting stand from a tree in Kosciusko County, the Indiana Department of Natural Resources said.

Barry D. Self, 51, was with his 17-year-old son in the Tri-County Fish and Wildlife Area near North Webster, the DNR said.

As Self worked to take down the stand, he fell 13 feet to the ground and landed on his left side, hurting his back and arms. Self’s son called 911 at 1:24 p.m., and Self was flown to Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne. He was in critical condition Saturday night, hospital staff said.

The DNR recommends that hunters use safety harnesses while removing tree stands.
