Starters turned subs shine for Luers

James Blackmon Sr. wanted to shake things up and decided to make a change to his lineup for the regular-season rematch against undefeated Northrop on Friday.

So the Bishop Luers boys basketball coach left usual starters Dwight Richards and Dominique Williams on the bench at the beginning.

But both players were big in the fourth quarter as the Knights pulled away from the Bruins for the 75-58 win to take control of the SAC race and give Northrop its first loss of the season.

Richards finished with 12 points and five rebounds, while Williams had four points and six rebounds.

The two combined for 12 points and nine rebounds in the fourth.

"It wasn't that they did anything wrong, it was just that we were looking for something different in our defensive presence," Blackmon Sr. said. "They came in and played like starters down the stretch. They were familiar with being in crunch time, and it didn't faze them, and they responded."
