John Elway didn't get where he is in life by being dumber than a chair leg. So there he was today, declaring that Tim Tebow would indeed go into 2012 as the Denver Broncos' starting quarterback.
Whether that's the smart move long term remains to be seen; the Blob thinks not, but the Blob is notoriously lacking in front-office experience. So I'll just say it's a shrewd move on Elway's part to come right out and announce this now rather than mulling it over for a few days or weeks.
Doing that not only wouldn't have been fair to Tebow, it would have opened the door to a festering quarterback controversy, and nothing festers like a quarterback controversy. And given the immense personal popularity of the quarterback in question, you could probably multiply that tenfold.
Elway shut all that down before it could ever start up, so bouquets to him. And if it only puts off the inevitable, when Tebow turns out not to be a sustainable option .... well, as they say, they'll cross that bridge when they come to it.
Even if it collapses in the process.
