Police nab escapee by following bare footprints

MUNCIE – Central Indiana police said they tracked down a man who escaped from their custody at a hospital by following his bare footprints in the snow.

The Star Press reported (http://tspne.ws/AuJ25K) Milton Carl James Burrell was arrested Saturday after failing to appear in court last week on battery charges.

He was taken to IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital for undisclosed treatment, but staff discovered Saturday evening that he’d escaped.

When a Muncie police officer opened an exit door near Burrell’s last known whereabouts, he found fresh, bare footprints in the snow. The officer then saw Burrell wearing nothing but a hospital gown running across a nearby street.

Burrell was taken back into custody after falling while running. He was returned to the hospital, where he was handcuffed to his bed.
