Statement issued Wednesday by the Northeast Indiana Regional Partnership:

Fort Wayne, IN – Tracey Shafer, Superintendent for Huntington County Community School Corporation, has been elected to serve on the board of Community Partnerships Inc. (CPI), a supporting organization of the Community Foundation of Greater Fort Wayne. CPI provides financial oversight for the Talent Initiative, a 10-county regional program in Northeast Indiana focused on accelerating education and training initiatives in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).

“Tracey has extensive experience in education which will prove very beneficial to the CPI Board,” said Leonard Helfrich, Talent Initiative Director. “Tracey began his education career as a science teacher, which coincides neatly with the Talent Initiative’s focus on STEM.”

Shafer is currently in his seventh year as Superintendent for Huntington County Community School Corporation. Previously he served as the Interim Superintendent for Huntington County Schools and the Assistant Superintendent for Instruction for Huntington County Schools. Prior to that he was also Principal at Winamac Community High School.

As a supporting organization of the Community Foundation of Greater Fort Wayne, the mission of CPI is to facilitate joint efforts of funders and other organizations that improve the community’s service delivery system through system-wide changes.

The Talent Initiative , established by a $20 million grant from Lilly Endowment Inc., is a 10-county regional program in Northeast Indiana focused on accelerating education and training initiatives in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). The primary goals of the Talent Initiative are to increase the base of highly skilled workers to meet the needs of the defense/aerospace and advanced manufacturing industries, while increasing job quality and reversing the current decline in regional per capita income. The Talent Initiative receives operational oversight from the Northeast Indiana Fund, a supporting organization of the Northeast Indiana Regional Partnership.
